God
Dwells With The Humble
"For thus saith the high and lofty One that
inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the
high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite
and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and
to revive the heart of the contrite ones." Isaiah
57:1 5.
Wonderful grace! That almighty God,
whom the heavens cannot contain, would take up His abode
in the heart of him who has humbled himself under that
mighty hand! Who would imagine an unclean thing in God's
dwelling place in heaven!
The holy God will have a holy
dwelling place, whether in heaven or in earth. His earthly
abode our hearts, must correspond with heaven; the
dwelling place with its occupant. For this purpose God has
given us the perfect revelation of His holy will—to
instruct us in the complete preparation for His incoming
and indwelling. This instructs us in every possible
respect, even to the outward adornment of our bodies,
which altogether, if faithfully observed, will obtain all
the promised graces of His presence.
He promises in this text to dwell
with him who is of an humble spirit, and also to revive
the spirit of the humble. Is not this glorious? A
continual revival. It must be so. His dwelling place must
necessarily correspond with Himself with respect to life.
The God life is there, and the spirit of the humble
receives continual sustenance.
